    Couldn't stop reading the book. Even though I would not relate to the inmates in usual circumstances I can understand their very unfair position and almost feel their frustrations. Amazing book!

    One word, Gripping. I honestly couldn't put this book down. I started it on the first day of the Easter holidays and here I'm into the last chapter 3 days later. The author has done a magnificent job of telling the world what it's really like Behind the bars at Hotel K. The sometimes gruesome accounts had me hooked from the "Foreword' and makes me think how good I/we really have it in a Developed Country. I don't by any means condone what these "crim's" have done, but honestly no human should have to put up with such conditions. . . . . Then again, if you have the money, your time there could be a little more comfortable, and get you the drugs you need. I'm off to finish the last chapter, and jump into Kathryn's "Snowing in Bali" which I have no doubt has the same exciting inside story :-)

    I could not out this book down once I started reading it. The news and media simply do not cover in depth enough about the Kerobokan Jail, however this book does just that and more, containing the most detailed and unbelievable accounts from inmates, guards, ex-inmates, and family about what life in this jail is really like. After reading this, I would not wish this on my worst enemy. Definitely an eye opener about life I this I humane and corrupt prison.

    You are going on a holiday to this beautiful place where the Balinese love foreigners to sit on their beautiful beaches, stay in their beautiful resorts/hotels and drink at their bars. Or so you think, when in fact the opposite is true. The practice of "changing heads" alone is enough to make you stay home, never mind sending your child to Bali for "Schoolies" They apparently hate all foreigners, you don't know who you are sitting next to on the beach which is true in any country, only in Bali it could be one of the worlds biggest drug dealers/psychopaths/rapists/serial killers who should be incarcerated but has paid for a day trip out to do whatever the hell they want. How could you remain sane to be on death row for drug trafficking, only to be surrounded by the most corrupt, two faced judicial systems that allow drug barons to continue to run their world drug distribution business from their own private gaol cell and to have this business running inside as well! To have gangs be imprisioned and then to rule the gaol with "guards" too scared to intervene! If you are going to Bali and end up in gaol and have the money to survive it then this would be the place to be! If you could stomach the hypocrisy of the corrupt system long enough to stay quiet!

    Such a fantastic read, I didn't want this book to end. This is an incredible read providing rare insight into what it's like to be in prison in a third world country. It shows how incredibly resilient the human spirit can be & how people somehow adapt in order to survive. A highly recommended book that is extremely difficult to put down.
