    Captivating, soul searching, mixed with intrigue, suspicion and that's barely scratched the surface. Never has a book gripped me so hard as this in quite a long time. As i follow Libby's personal journey into herself, her past and the snippets of memories she has of the night that irrevocably changed her forever I quickly realized it's more than just a typical murder mystery. Gillian brings such emotional depth to not only Libby but each character you encounter that you wonder if she's writing from a personal account. The anguish, the anxiety, the confusion that Libby faces just in day to day living let alone as she becomes instrumental in finding out the truth about that night when at 7, her mother and two sisters were murdered and her brother was sentenced to life leaving her as sole survivor and witness. She has to wipe the slate clean of everything she's ever believed in in order to confront the people who were a part of the family's life and who really knew just what happened. Brilliant work. Will have you guessing until the very last page.

    I have a problem where I cannot finish reading books. I get about a third to half way through and get distracted and never go back. However, from the first pages of Dark Places, I could not put it down. Being on an international flight helped, but I finished the novel over a weekend. Like the title, the book is extremely dark and made me feel quite uncomfortable at times. There is humour, but it's quite morbid; reminds me of Chuck Palahniuk. Looking forward to checking out her other titles.

    A little dark, a bit gory in places, but overall a really great book. I enjoyed Gone Girl, but liked Dark Places a whole lot better

    Depressing, ugly and tedious. I did not like this novel at all. Full of unhappy characters and ghastly events I simply felt dirty after reading this book. I knew it would not be uplifting as I had already read the author's Gone Girl but this was a much more intensely vile story. Not my style.

    After reading Gone Girl, I decided to buy this book.. and I was not disappointed! I don't usually like dark, suspense thrillers, but the way the author captivates you and keeps you guessing.. It's hard to put the book down!!
