  • Poorly researched

    I have read numerous novels by this renowned author. On this occasion I found the very poor attention to significant detail and cultural differences a source of considerable annoyance that detracted from what was a reasonable story line. Specifically, Australia has been a metric country for over 40 years. Why then would all temperatures mentioned be in degrees F not Celsius? Why would all speeds be given in MPH instead of KPH? Why would distances be given in miles not kilometres? Why would a murder suspect purchase latex gloves at a "drugstore" rather than chemist or pharmacy? Considerable effort was given to getting the geographic details of Sydney reasonably correct, why not the rest?

    It seems to me that James Patterson is lending his name to some very mediocre co- writers in an effort to maximise his income. This story (Private Oz) was really the sort of story you would associate with a new author being given a " leg up" by an established author so was it a "quickie" for cash?

    If your idea of storytelling is so called "chapters" that equate to less than one page then you'll love this. 150 chapters, 226 pages. The structure is such that you simply cannot emotionally involve yourself in this book, it's like a poorly directed film noir. My first foray into the Private series, an undoubtedly my last. From an author whose works I have previously enjoyed, very disappointed.
  • Not his best Private novel

    I've read a lot of Patterson's books and all in the Private series, I just felt this one was not as we'll researched as the previous ones. I hope that changes with the next one.
