About the author

Following college, Peter spent approximately 8 months managing a comic shop and pondering what to do with his life. He then went into medical publishing, squandering ten years of his physical prime sitting in a cubicle. He contented himself with writing books he never hoped to sell.
In June of 2007, his hard work and perseverance paid off, as he sold his 4th novel, THE PAINTED MAN, and in October of 2007, he left his day job to pursue writing full time.
He lives in Brooklyn NY .


  • Yet another sell out

    Cliche writing aside I loved his early books. Like so many he started out strongly, before his avarice grew too great. He has sold out and is clearly only interested in keeping this tale spinning for as long as possible so that he can make as much money out of a series that should have been great.

    Peter V Brett has woven a wonderful tale, full of detail and character. I would recommend this series to everyone and this third story furthers that detail, giving a view of the motivations of one of the more mysterious central characters and portraying a fantastic battle with a demon army as well as between the humans.

    I can say without a doubt that Mr Brett has, once again, written here, a masterpiece. Putting this book down was a challenge doubled with every word. I would highly recommend this book and the books before it to any and all readers. I can not wait for the next book to hit shelves and i will fight Alagai and man alike to get it first. Thank you Mr Brett for the amazingly written Demon Cycle books, i look forward to reading more of your books.

    The rules changed! It irritated me how new magic was introduced throughout, made it feel like he's trying to extend the story. I loved the first two books and really enjoy how Peter writes but felt this dragged on a touch too long.

    After ending the third book in the series I have to admit that I was surprised. From The Painted Man to The Desert Spear Peter V Brett has developed a set of characters, two very contemporary cultures as well as some historically pertinent messages. This fantasy epic subtly shrouds real world issues and still stays true to the style and the emotion of fantasy. Absolutely fantastic achievement!!!

    This is what I waited for? It's like he threw out the idea of his character and rewrote him completely, the book spends far too much time on inervara and very little on anything important. Granted it did finish well, but nothing happened till the last few hundred pages! Overall it felt like a filler book, the next one should be fantastic but that certainly wasn't.
