    I rated this book with only three stars because it seemed to be disjointed throughout the narrative.Even though i understood what it's message was it did not move me as had The Kite Runner,or A Thousand Golden Suns ,which is probably one of the best books i have ever read.It touched me so deeply,upset me greatly,and inspired me to try in any way i could to help expose to others the horrors women face daily in Islamist countries.While all three books have made me more determined and active in preventing this barbaric cult from gaining a larger foothold in our Western Christian Societies than they already have. If you have read all these books i would be interested to see if others agree with my review,or perhaps i missed something?

In contrast to Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner where unjust and cowardly acts are rewarded with suffering and regret, And The Mountains Echoes illustrates the characters without judgement and pragmatically create a beautiful story of the entanglement of human lives.

    This book started off so good. I loved The kite runner/thousand splendid suns. It's disjointed and confused and the tales don't gel in very well. Some things are so irrelevant (ie a part where a girls partner calls her and says their daughter is sick and the symptoms are like cancer, it just wasn't necessary, just waffle). Some of the characters start of with big parts of the story then their lives are mentioned briefly and fleetingly-kind of left for dust. It's like he got tired of the book and added bits in but they don't gel. He lost me......

    There are several stories within the main story. Where do I begin. The love between a brother and sister, an uncle and his employer, a disfigured girl and her mother's friend all connected to events that will change their lives forever. The city of Kabul that is a backdrop to this story, the resilience of people who are left with nowhere to go have had their homes taken from them but who still fight for justice. It is an emotional ride and I could not put the book down. It graphically depicts life in a war torn beautiful country where corruption and poverty ride side by side. An excellent read hope it is made into a film.

Khaled Hosseini's story takes us from a village in Afghanistan to France, America and Greece following the life story of a young brother and sister separated in childhood. His stories of the people who's life paths cross theirs carries forth the storytelling tradition of Afghanistan.

    I was disappointed, I had loved 'Kite Runner' and his next but I found this disjointed and I was not taken in by this book. I felt it started well but quickly lost me.
