    An unbelievable autobiography. I doubt I will read another like it. A great example of a person that faced tremendous hardship, but instead of making excuses and allowing it to be his demise, faced it and used it as his inner fuel to reach the height of his chosen path. This book should be mandatory at schools instead of Shakespeare type garbage. There is a lot to learn and think about.

    Thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and believe that it should be on the reading list for late high school years. I imagine there must be many troubled youths like the young Mark that just need to know that they can turn their lives around when they hit that crossroad and maybe give them the courage to make good choices.

    Awesome read, thanks Mark. I appreciated the insight, firstly into the conditions in Afghanistan, what you guys had to deal and work with. Secondly the insight into the regiment itself. I think it was Winston Churchill who said, “We sleep soundly in our beds at night because out there in the darkness rough men stand ready to visit violence upon those who would do us harm.” I think that if more Australian’s had this insight then more of us would sleep soundly. And finally thanks for the insight into what went together to make up one of Australia’s heroes. You and your brothers are heroes Mark and we are proud of you all. And thanks again for the insight.

    A truly great read by one of the most down to earth people you'd ever want to meet. Written in a style that is so easy to read & so honest. From his time growing up as a wild child in Dorrigo on the NSW North Coast to his training to become an SAS soldier to his time in Afghanistan fighting a very unforgiving war with great success with mates including his dog Devil. It was very funny in parts with the black humour of his mates but very touching in his relationships with his family & friends. A true VC hero although he initially never understood why but he eventually became to believe its meaning after talking with other VC winners & what it meant to the wider community. A must read book for all Australians to understand the real VC winner!
