    I've never watched the show but have heard about it so I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately I found the quick tempo in the book very unappealing. I like to savour the stories in books but found it difficult to do so with this one. I'm sure there are more complex and more interesting prison books out there, if not there should be. Reading about a well to do privileged white woman who spent a year in a low security prison made me yawn. The author is profiting from her criminal past, yes that's how the world works but I'd like my money back since I think her criminal past is not worth my money.I also think it is full of words plucked straight from the dictionary which makes it pretentious.

    As a fan of the TV show, I was interested to see how closely the show has followed the book. Understandably, the TV show is more exciting with more drama but it's pretty close in many of the characters. Piper illustrates the changes that have been made in sentencing laws which are not helpful and often end up in people being jailed when they could be better off serving their sentences in the community. Thanks for sharing your story Piper!

    Couldn't put it down. An informative book written with heart. Anguish. Love. I am now addicted to the series on television but you can't beat the book.
  • Boring

    139 pages in and I give up. It's just.....boring! It hasn't grabbed me once. I haven't laughed. I haven't shaken my head. I haven't felt any connection to the story, the author, nothing at all.
