    Red Queen has a very interesting plot that both intrigued me and kept me up well past midnight, consuming one chapter after another. The plot itself is addictive and suspenseful, craftily written for the enjoyment of particularly the young adults (female). My only complaints are the characters themselves, namely the protagonist who annoyed me to a great deal around halfway. As much I admit that human emotions are complex and not black-and-white, Mare felt very "fake". I liked her as a character but despised the way she dealt with her love life. Maybe it's because I have read books with a similar romantic plot, but from the start I had figured out what the ending was going to be like (and I was unfortunately correct) — which was quite the cliché. However, Red Queen is, to put it plainly, a very good book. Strong characters, unique storyline, beautifully written language that paints the world which Mare's plight takes place in explicit imagery. I don't write reviews but I found myself writing this so that when the next book comes out (hopefully next year, if this sells well), I remember my thoughts about this novel.
